Letter from Steve Stred
Back in 2018, I had this crazy idea.
I kept seeing people in the community question why there were not opportunities for different groups and different writers. After seeing it for maybe the 50th time, something dinged. Why not create an opportunity?
Honestly, at first, I was hesitant and I didn’t know how to even get any of this off the ground, but one night while chatting with Toni from the fantastic Ladies of Horror Fiction, I casually mentioned – would the LOHF be interested in offering a Grant to a writer? I’d front the cash, they could figure out a way to award it and a deserving author would be awarded this Grant and use it to help with their writing in any way they saw fit. She asked the LOHF group and the response was a resounded YES! Let’s do it!
So, back in 2019, the very first Ladies of Horror Fiction Writer’s Grant was awarded.
When 2020 rolled around, I was prepared to offer up another Grant. LOHF announced the Grant was happening again and you know what?
EIGHT OTHERS STEPPED UP.
We went from one Grant to TEN GRANTS! (One Publisher kindly offered two grants! For those wondering about that math!)
Now, here we are in 2021 and once again we’re partnering or the 3rd Annual LOHF Writer’s Grant! As of writing this, we have NINE GRANTS available! I hope that once this is announced a few others come on board (at least one more to get to ten again!) but either way – NINE GRANTS!
Just amazing. Thank you to the community for their continued excitement over this and thank you to the wonderful Ladies of Horror Fiction who facilitate this. They do all of the heavy lifting with this one, including choosing the worthy recipients, and I’m forever grateful that they welcomed me with open arms.

Eligibility Requirements
The LOHF Writers Grant is inclusive to all women (cis and trans) and non-binary femmes who have reasonably demonstrated a commitment to writing in the horror genre. All grant provided funds must be used in a manner that will help develop the applicant’s career.
The applicant must not have received the LOHF Writers Grant within the previous three years.
Application Process
In order to apply for the LOHF Writers Grant, you must fill out this form by 11:59pm August 31, 2021.
Selection Process
Fifteen grant recipients will be selected by members of the LOHF Writers Grant Committee consisting of non-disclosed members of the Ladies of Horror Fiction.
Grant Disbursement
Fifteen recipients will receive the LOHF Writers Grant in the amount of $100. The Ladies of Horror Fiction team will announce the recipients of the LOHF Writers Grant on September 15, 2021. At that time, the LOHF Writers Grant Committee will also notify Steve Stred of the recipients.
