The "YA" Recap

Ladies of Horror Fiction Instagram Challenge Weekly Recap Banner - it simply states "The LOHF Instagram Challenge Weekly Recap" on a background with a skull atop a stack of books imprinted to the left.

If you missed last week’s prompt The Road, be sure to check that one out as well.

Day 15 of our Ladies of Horror Fiction Instagram challenge was Young Adult. This was a great prompt for recommendations since we would love to read more Young Adult Horror.

Carissa_reads posted Welcome to the Dark House – the first book in the Dark House series by Laurie Faria Stolarz, Survive the Night by Danielle Vega , and The Passenger by Lisa Lutz.

Teamsheltie shared one of her all time favorites Anna Dressed in Blood (along with the sequel Girl of Nightmares) by Kendare Blake.

“Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until he was gruesomely murdered by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. They follow legends and local lore, destroy the murderous dead, and keep pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

Searching for a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas expects the usual: track, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, now stained red and dripping with blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

Yet she spares Cas’s life.”

Dlgillis20 posted A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb from her TBR pile.

In the class of the high school English teacher she has been haunting, Helen feels them: for the first time in 130 years, human eyes are looking at her. They belong to a boy, a boy who has not seemed remarkable until now. And Helen–terrified, but intrigued–is drawn to him. The fact that he is in a body and she is not presents this unlikely couple with their first challenge. But as the lovers struggle to find a way to be together, they begin to discover the secrets of their former lives and of the young people they come to possess.

Gowsy33 picked up Amy Lukavics’ The Ravenous after reading and loving her other work.

From the outside, the Cane family looks like they have it all. A successful military father, a loving mother and five beautiful teenage daughters. But on the inside, life isn’t quite so idyllic: the Cane sisters can barely stand each other, their father is always away, and their neglectful mother struggles with addiction and depression.

When their youngest and most beloved sister, Rose, dies in a tragic accident, Mona Cane and her sisters are devastated. And when she is brought back from the dead, they are relieved. But soon they discover that Rose must eat human flesh to survive, and when their mother abandons them, the sisters will find out just how far they’ll go to keep their family together.”

Heylittlethrifter naturally shared a glorious pile of Point Horror books!
